The Cherry Trees 'Upstairs Appeal' - More Care for Surrey's children with disabilities
|
|
 |
What was the Appeal?
Cherry Trees launched an appeal to raise £150,000 for more beds and facilities for children in Surrey with special needs.
Called the Cherry Trees 'Upstairs Appeal,' it was launched on Saturday May 17 2003.
Companies, organisations and individuals held fund raising events all over the county in the following months. We had raised all the money by Christmas!

Fund Raising - What Was Done To Help Cherry Trees Get Upstairs! |
People helped Cherry Trees by hosting a golf day, a bridge evening, coffee morning or tennis tournament.
Several Surrey newspapers and magazines pledged their support and helped promote and publicise fund raising events.
Posters, stickers, balloons and collecting tins, all with the special 'Upstairs Appeal' logo, were in evidence throughout Surrey and were available to anyone or any business who planned an event.

The
Appeal Money |
| Every year, the number of disabled children in Surrey needing the care facilities like those offered at Cherry Trees grows. That's why the Cherry Trees 'Upstairs Appeal' was launched.
It now provides that much needed extra accommodation - in fact, it provides an extra 1344 overnight places every year. That's a lot more care, for a lot more Surrey youngsters with special needs!
It was called the Upstairs Appeal because the new accommodation is all located on the first floor.
The £150,000 raised was used to convert the old staff quarters at Cherry Trees into overnight accommodation for the children.
The conversion provides:
- More specially equipped bedrooms and bathrooms for the children;
- A computer room with specially adapted computer equipment;
- An amenity room for older children;
- A lift to carry the children to the rooms
